The girls and I went over to Highland Fest this past weekend. It’s a cute neighborhood-ish festival. We browsed the stalls, ate some cheese curds and mini-donuts, played Bingo and bought some jewelry. Apparently the fried food wasn’t filling enough, so we ran up to Grand Avenue between downpours and had lunch at the new Salut on Grand Avenue. I went there a few weeks ago and was very disappointed, but we thought we’d give it another try. And I’m glad we did.
We had to sit inside because the downpours kept coming through town, but the interior is just as beautiful as the patio so we were fine. T started with the above drink, called Froggy Style, which reminded all of us about the frog who cuddled on her lap in St. John. Except this pink plastic frog was about a quarter of the size of the real one. But back to the drink, which included gin, mint, cucumber and other stuff. It was mighty tasty (she shared), but strong.
We started with their famous fries along with the bearnaise sauce, just what we needed, more fried food.
And then strangely, we all ordered fish. Jen ordered the Tuna Nicouse Salad.
T ordered a fish sandwich.
M ordered the halibut (which was beautiful, by the way) and I ordered the special,
Scottish Salmon with Gnocchi in a tomato-olive sauce. Safe to say, we were all very happy. The salmon was perfectly prepared and the amount was just right. I could have used more gnocchi and fewer tomatoes, but I was okay with it. It was a world away from my last visit to Salut.
So, what’s better than a good meal? A good meal with good friends, in a beautiful restaurant while it rains cats and dogs outside. It all made for a great Saturday.

it was a great day!
