perfect halloween treat? (from bon appetite)

It’s time for the Final Friday Five again, and in honor of Halloween, I want to know your Favorite Halloween Candies! My favorites are, in no particular order, of course:

1. Almond Joy
2. Kit Kats
3. Butterfinger
4. Peanut M&Ms
5. York Peppermint Patties

Now it’s your turn. Leave a comment and list your top five favorites. I’ll also send a candy bar to anyone who can guess what my Daughter will be dressing up as for Halloween. If I’ve already told you, you’re disqualified.

(And yes, Jill, this time Red Vines is an appropriate answer).

Be Safe and have a Happy Halloween!

Kitchen Cure Update

Remember what my cupboard looked like last week?

I ran across this article in Real Simple and pulled myself from the couch and took 15 minutes to make it look like this.

Now I now what I have, how much I have and where it is. Amazing. And the best part? Nothing falls on my head when I open the cupboard doors. Marvelous! There’s still work to be done, and this was only week one of the Kitchen Cure. I’m heading to Ikea and the Container Store this weekend, so watch out! I’m gettin’ organized!

I made this Caramel Apple Cake last weekend. It was a ton of work. It has a ton of calories. I almost gave up half way through, but stuck it out. It was worth it. I think.

I’m off to Denver in the morning to celebrate my Nephew’s Second Birthday. See you next week!

The Kitchen Cure

I just joined the Fall 2010 Kitchen Cure through Apartment Therapy. Each week I’ll receive an email with an assignment and tips on organizing my kitchen. It’s not that my kitchen is dirty, in fact we just cleaned out the fridge,  um, a few weeks ago, But our kitchen is small. With limited storage space. So things build up. And with a family that loves to cook and eat, we often have more food in our kitchen that we can store. I’ve also struggled with storing my spices since we remodeled our kitchen four years ago. Just can’t figure out a system. And every time I need to dig through the cupboard for cumin or cinnamon I get frustrated. So, I’m off to start organizing. Here is a before photo (please don’t look too closely!)

I’ll post some after photos, well, After!

PS: Yep, that’s a cake down there in the cake dome. More on that tomorrow!

I met a friend for lunch last week at the new Mexican place in the West End shopping complex. The place is called Rojo and I thoroughly enjoyed the vegetarian tacos, loaded with sweet potatoes and black beans. But the best part of the meal was sitting outside on the patio with a friend I’ve known since college. Needless to say, my lunch hour was a bit longer than an hour that day. Oh well.

Brussel Sprouts

I picked up some Brussels Sprouts last weekend at the Farmer’s Market and finally got around to cooking them. I chose a recipe from Food and Wine for Spicy-Garlicky Brussels Sprouts. I probably should have cooked them a few minutes longer than I did, but they were still pretty good. And healthy. Don’t forget healthy.
